2010 Exhibition at Aberystwyth Museum![]() Friday 02 Jul 2010 [13:00] Duration: 8 weeks Location: Aberystwyth Ceredigion I have been kindly invited to exhibit part of my growing colletion of antique Welsh blankets at Aberystwyth Museum in July & August of 2012.
This exhibition will include examples of Nineteenth Century narrow loom blankets from the counties of Ceredigion , Carmarthenshire & Pembrokeshire . With particular focus on local mills in Ceredigion.
Some very rare examples of vegetable dyed carthenni & flannel quilts from Pontrydygroes mill . This mill nestled on the steep slopes of the Ystwyth Valley produced simple , utilitarian carthenni & blankets for the local mining community.
Dyed wth Beetroot & Blackberry , wonderful examples of a real rural industry long before the industrialisation of Carmarthenshires` woollen mills.
Along side these coarse clothed utilitarian bedcovers will be some beautiful examples of monochrome tapestry bedcovers from the Llyn Peninsular which will be on loan from Elaine at Trefriw Mill in the North . Stark comparisons in style & execution .
Elaine & I hope to produce a record of patterns in time for this exhibition .
