Soft undyed Cream with Pink narrow stripes
A fabulous narrow width Nineteenth Century blanket in the softest undyed Cream wool. A subtle& delicate natural dye of bright cochineal Pink & undyed Dove Grey used in alternating single thread stripes running the length of the cloth at intervals of about 2" apart.
Plain weave with a machine sewn central seam. Woven on a four heddle box loom by hand using hand spun yarn.
An unusual blanket & one that I do not recognise. Possibly woven at home using the weavers own fleece. Herringbone twill being a much stronger weave & was adopted very early by most mills.
In perfect condition.
Pure soft wool. A lovely example of home weaving . highly collectable & functional.
This old Welshman is suitable for regular respectful use.
