Jacobs Brown & Ecru stripe.

Natural Brown & Ecru stripes in a hard wearing herringbone twill. A hand woven warp faced Welsh blanket of some considerable age C1890. A simple design of repeated narrow stripes running the length of the cloth. Woven on a narrow width hand loom & two pieces sewn together to create a larger bedcover. Machined warp ends.

The practice of warp facing was an early way to create a reversable blanket , cheaper than double cloth & easier to weave on a hand loom too. The two sides looking quite different i their negative / positive effect.

In super clean & sound condition . This lovely old Welshman has undergone a bit of conservation & has plenty of darns marking its historic narrative. It is however a great example of early weaving using undyed yarns on a simple loom to the best effect.

An honest piece.
