Abercych
Pure wool narrow width Welsh blanket woven at Abercych Mill c1900 One of Two available. Originally woven from the sellers familys` fleece as were a lot of these old blankets.
In natural Greys created by carding together coloured fleece before spinning. Broad bands made up of tramlines in natural Cream & Black. Later Blanket stitched warp ends & hand sewn centre seam .
Abercych Mill was in rural Pembrokeshire not far from Boncath & Crmych was a it seems fed by a 110m Subsidiary leat from the water fed Corn Mill Fforch Cych Mill in turn fed by an even more impressive 730m Leat from a natural weir across the Afon Cych. Given its proximity to Crmych its likely that the mill sold its wares at this very important trading market.
Like most of these independent & rural weaving mills the customer would supply the raw product for both their own cloth & knitting yarns, and the surplus was often payment so that the weaver had a supply for market.
This is a superb quality blanket in clean & sound condition. Suitable for everyday respectful use and a great addition to a collection also.
