Penwern.

A lovely hand woven carthen from Penwern Mill in Cribyn, Ceredigion. What looks like undyed Llanwennog , a soft grey in a hardwearing herringbone twill. tramlines of Aubergine, strawberry Pink, Flax Blue and Royal Blue.

woven on a narrow width loom in two pieces and then carefully sewn together to create a larger bedcover. Hand sewn fish bone stitch at each end.

In beautiful condition. bought locally ,, it has never been further than 5 miles from its original place of production until now.carthenni from Penwern are rarely found so this is a real treasure.

Woven around 1930 at Penwern.A proper Welsh carthen , finished with short fringes on two long sides.

Measures 76" x 68" ( 193cm x 173cm) plus short fringes on two sides.
