Reverse twill in Teal, Honey & Violet.
A contemporay colourway using an iconic " carthen" design. Made popular mid Century in that cluster of mills in the Gwili Valley. With a tradition for carthenni ( fringed blankets) already well into the previous Century. Mills such as : Cwmgwili, Gwili Mill & Elfed had their own versions of these reverse twill blankets.
Produced in pastel colours after the Second World War , they were exported to swansea & The South Wales Valleys. Sold in shops, on market stalls ( Megan Jones Carmarthen) & back packed & sold door to door ( Malcolm Black Swansea).
The wedding gift of choice for at least a generation of South Wales famillies.
They were produced only in the Gwili Valley until 1959 when DERW mIll bought out Cwmgwili & there on the two sister mills produced each others designs. Alltacavan , DERWs biggest competitor , also in Pentrecwrt soon followed suit with some bright contrasting versions. Moving away from the post war pastels.
This one replicates the colours from an Alltacavan blanket : in Honey & Cream with Violet & Teal. Unfringed with border designs & blanket stitched ends.
