Caernafon tapestry in Biscuit, Teal & Orange.
A great colourway from 1930s North Wales: Biscuit ground with Teal & Orange. Fully reversable with a different pattern each side. Machine sewn warp ends.
Like all 1930s Caernafon tapestries it has a border design on all four sides of an interlocking chain design. This was removed on the warp ends in the 1950s to allow the mill to weave a continuous run of cloth without the need to change the pattern chain each time a blanket was finished.
Pure wool with a high twist, extremely hard wearing & perfect for everday use. In marvellous condition; this 80 year old has a couple of neat darns documenting its historical narrative. A contemporary colour to bring a real Welsh accent to your room.
Tapestry bedcovers were woven predominantly in North Wales at this time. At such mills as Vale of conwy, Penmachno, Jacob Jones ( Festiniog) & Royal Mill. With pattern corruptions within each passing decade they serve to trace the history of Welsh textiles throughout the Twentieth Century.
