Aberearon Striped C19th blanket.
Woven at Parrys` mill in Aberearon before the Twentieth Century modernisation . Rarely available & highly collectable. In steel Grey with a simple Black ticked stripe in 2 ply yarn. Hank dyed with plenty of variation in colour, almost speckled appearance.
Plain weave with machined warp ends & machine sewn centre seam . Several neatly executed historic darns. Sound & clean.
Woven on a narrow width flannel loom in the days before Power looms were introduced to the mill.
Aberearon mill was initially rented by John Parry before being offered to him by the owner when he emigrated to America. Established in 1820 it closed during the 1950s at which time it was producing the far more recognised Mid Century plaids & checks sold in local shops through the County & beyond.
These earlier blankets all seem to be in dark greys , often with Indigo in simple checks & stripes. Pure wool.
